So have you been a bit worried about us?

Oh, sure, we've tickled your fancy on our Facebook page. (And if you want constant adorable reminders of what we love in this vast fiber world, that's the ticket.)

But we have been quiet on the social media front, haven't we? That is because your faithful May Hem has been Hemming it up abroad. And sugar, let me tell you it takes a real broad to be a BombShell abroad. My platinum locks are all the rage here with my island companions. I have been promised passion and strength. I have been offered secret potions. I have been offered things that you cannot even imagine.

But have I been offered companionship and craftsmanship and a colorful whimsical chandelier?

No. That is happening back home, in the silence of the night and over long days as the gals prepare for the TRULY, NEWLY (fiber) CHIHULY event at the Cincinnati Art Museum on February 11th!

Join The BombShells of Cincinnati and their fabulous Sidekicks as they create a monumental installation that will hang from the center of the Great Hall at the Cincinnati Art Museum. The colorful knitted and crocheted installation will consist of a “soft” chandelier, 5 larger than life sized marionette puppets, and whimsical and “heartfelt” yarn-bombing art. In addition to the installation, there will be “craft” stations set up and facilitated by the BombShells. You're invited to create your own yarn art to add to the installation.

Fountain Square and Arnold's and Santacon, oh my.

So we wore our winter whites and decided to share our esteemed knowledge of crafty cuteness on a very very eventful December day!

WHEW!

That's the nutshell version of it.

It started out for the greater good as the gals did their folksy tutorial with some awesome new pals at Arnold's. Check out the pictorial below.

See?

Charming and harmless and sedate and adorable. BombShells behaving.

Well then we went over to Fountain Square to carol and skate and bomb and give warmly knitted gifts to those in need and such where we ran into an entire squadron of Santa Clauses.

One thing led to another, as it tends to do, and it took me a week to find my way back from Santa's "workshop" at the North Pole (which looks suspiciously like Over the Rhine, by the way.)

So from the bottom of my now-merry little heart and on behalf of the rest of the BombShells, we wish you a warm, colorful, cozy old-fashioned holiday with just the right people around you.

Because you deserve it. You really, really do.

And if Santa isn't good to you this year, just give us a holler and I will chat him up directly (I know where he lives, remember) and/or we'll just bypass that entire operation and send some knitted love directly to you and yours.

Last week, your favorite BombShells debuted their winter white outfits and surprised the Cincinnati Ballet's Ballet and (root)Beer event for their sneak peek at the NEW Nutcracker.

We gave out leg warmers to the amazing corps de ballet and Wish Poms to the young dancers. New Nutcracker got a fancy Pinky Shears scarf and beautiful Victoria Morgan earned a felted tiara.

And moi, your faithful scribe and all-around good sport, learned to do what I will discreetly call a "tour jete" in a private lesson from one of the smokin' hot dancers. Ooh la la.

Operation Where Are We?

I had just gotten off the train from ~~High Anxiety~~ Really, That's How You're Going To Play This? Junction when I heard that the gals were on a mission. So even though it was dark and blustery, even though my heart had endured a tiny puncture wound, I put my troubled past behind me and skedaddled over to the heretofore double-top-secret site.

But while I was in Really, That's How You're Going To Play This? Junction, I did acquire some fancy new photography apparatus for my hand held telephonic device so that I can tease you with a little look-see as to where you will find our work TOMORROW!!

So take a look. Can you name the building? If you are the first to do so and publicly identify yourself in the comment section below, you will get a special pom pom that we pom pommed just for you.

So after the success of the Big Bomb (I will share just a few of the links below to some of the wildly generous coverage we received after our Central Parkway operation in September - and thanks to many friends for posting photos to blogs and Facebook - a few above), we were all a bit startled by our new-found fame. Some of us went underground, some of us took a break, and some of us couldn't stop stitching.

I chose the second strategy and decided to head south for a little break on the beach with a male companion whom I will call "George Clooney" so as A: not to reveal his real identity, B: to describe his crazy good looks, C: because it makes me happy to be able to Google May Hem and George Clooney and find a link, albeit my own, that connects us together, forever, in virtual reality.

So we were lying on the beach in our fancy cabana and "George " was rubbing my tired hands because I had complained just the tiniest little bit about how all my intricate stitch work and blogging gave me carpal tunnel issues and therefore it was hard for me to even lift my drink! As you can imagine, this was distressing news all around.

So while "George" massaged, I recounted the Big Bomb success and the wild paparazzi filled aftermath and you know what he said?

"You blew up, baby."

I was all like "You mean like Snooki? Or Kim? Or Bethenny?"

And he was all like "No better than that."

And I was all like "Ha ha. Like who then?"

And he was all like "Dude, you are like way more Debbie Harry or Gaga. You are using sex appeal ironically, right? You are using your sexed up identity and cute, craftsy materials sort of subversively, right? What's next? Reality show? World domination? Museum show? It's cool that all of those things are in the domain you've created. You own it, babe."

And I was all like "Where's the cabana boy?"

I excused myself and went to find cell service under a palm tree to call Pinky Shears to report on what "George" had said. I was in a panic. Was I ironic? Was that a good thing? Why was "George Clooney" acting so smart?

Pinky laughed. "May, we are a bunch of women who know a good thing when we see it. We want to have fun. We are smoking hot. We work hard. We are wildly talented. We like to do things in the community that make you look twice and think about what else is possible. If that is ironic and subversive, then that's okay by me. Tell him we are working on a plan and that a BombShell doesn't reveal future plans to anyone, even if it is George Clooney."

So I did. And 'George Clooney' seemed to be fine with that, especially because we, well, you know. We did some subversive and ironic things.

What's next for the BombShells? We can't tell you EXACTLY what we are doing, but know that we are going to have a very busy end of the year and 2012 is going to be off the hook.

Get off the couch and come on down to Central Parkway and put on a platinum wig and join the BombShells as they cover the entire median from Broadway to Central. Not to mention the Metro Bus and a rad bike and a pig.

Ever since I did the "tango" with a certain White Sox player I have been drawn to the curious sport of baseball.

So when the BombShells mentioned a chance to visit the Cincinnati Reds, I checked out the roster, noticed a certain Joey Votto and said, "Hell yes!"

Here we are doing the Seventh Inning Stretch and warming up a few of the players with our own sweet BombShell moves.

Well la dee dah.

Not only were we invited to a CAC gala, we got to warm up the building with more than our smokin' hot good looks.

On Saturday night, we BombShells showed off a month's worth of work by a baker's dozen of our gals. And 4400 yards of yarn later, we got to adorn Zaha Hadid's smokin' hot building during the Contemporary Arts Center's annual gala.

We hope Keith Haring would be proud of us. Cuz we were sure honored to be a part of such an esteemed art institution's party plans and silent auction. And that is no joke.

Thanks to honorary BombShell Jaime Thompson, CAC's Curator of Education and one of our BombShell idols, Director Raphaela Platow for opening the door for us.

Now excuse us while we put away our high heels and party dresses and we get back to the thousands of yards of yarn that it's going to take for us to really knock your socks off this fall.

So one of our BombShells goes by Toots. And while she claims to be a down-to-earth, mudcloth, hoarder-o-fiber, down and dirty sort of gal, I'm not so sure.

I took some double-top-secret snaps of her double-top-secret work for our next double-top-secret bombing and, well, check it out. It seems pretty black and white to me that Toots has a double life. She says "earth shoes" and we see stilettos. She says "hand-me-downs" and we see vintage sexy.

All I'm really sayin' is that what you think you know about us, think again. And look at the quiet woman next to you at the coffee shop. Think of your mother or your sister or your daughter. Do you know for SURE that they aren't a secret BombShell?

Oh no, darlings. We are not dormant. We are getting ready in a stealthy stitch-by-stitch manner for some wild business of the fiber persuasion.

But we don't want you to forget us so I may be profiling a few BombShells, on occasion, when not with my man on Fire Island (or the other one in Gatlinburg). It is August, after all. And no civilized BombShell actually WORKS in August. We travel. We knit. We cocktail. Hurray!

So, without further ado, meet Wip, Pinky's right hand BombShell.

As you can see, she is a trickster. Her demure manner, her sweet dresses, her bows and baubles, they are smoke and mirrors I tell you. Smoke and mirrors.

Because Wip is the one who whips up little rat babies to place around town. They are pretty cute but don't be fooled. Cuz a rat is a rat is a rat. And Wip knows RATS. As do all BombShells. In fact, that was going to be a part of the manifesto (history of hanging out with scoundrels and/or dancing on bars and/or attendance at Burning Man) but we nixed all that for our all-fiber creed.

So that's our Wip. Sweet. Like burnt sugar. Like spiked juice. Like cotton candy in the carnival house of mirrors. Especially fond of Arnold's Bar and Grill. Especially keen on their Vodka Lemonade. Beware, beware, beware. If you find yourself falling for her southern charm, if you find her hand on your knee while you are sitting at Arnold's bar, know that she is plotting her next Rat Bomb.

There. You have been warned.

So that's all for today. I got the ocean singing me a song, the sun on my back, a man with a handful of oil standing beside me, and a margarita to drink.

Operation Twin Peaks. Cincinnati Enquirer is on to us!

Rome wasn't built in a day, ya know.

And neither is a BombShell bomb. These little yarn bombings take HOURS to plan and create and stealthily adhere to the landscape in some adorable way.

So we thought it would be awesome to bomb Romulus and Remus, to honor the twins who founded Rome (but who first had to be fathered by a God, abandoned, suckled by a she-wolf, adopted, shepherd flocks, learn their identity, stage coup, bicker, etc.).

That is sort of what it is like to be a BombShell. Only without the bickering. And we just suckle cocktails, thank goodness.

Operation Razzle Dazzle took place at 5 a.m. this morning as the BombShells and their man can-do helpers gave Northside a cute patriotic fiber look just in time for their own annual Fourth of July parade.

(We had to take the photos before the dawn's early light, so that's why these Operation Razzle Dazzle images look a bit more noir than glitzy.)

And just like the photo sez, Pinky Shears does indeed have a posse and this morning it included yours truly, Nellie Bomb, Sushi Girl, Babzy BS, FrogRoyale, J Bomb, Orson Welles, James Bomb, Stitches, Rasta Man, Big Foot, Wip, Boo Radley and Yum Yum Delish.

Many trees and poles and a few benches and branches received some BombShell love in this teensy tiny taste of the shape of things to come.

We celebrated our independent spirits this morning by bonding together to make the world prettier, one cute object at a time. We thank the early morning passers-by for giving us a thumbs up and for keeping our secret secret. We also thank the people who make alarm clocks and coffee. And yarn. And holidays. And we also especially thank the double-top-secret (but soon to be revealed) super great people and organizations who are helping to make our work both possible and slightly legal.

So get out there, you crazy kids! Light a sparkler! Make a flag! Kiss a sailor!

Soiree, Salon, Rendezvous, Insurrection, Bee?

They came in secret, each telling tall tales to get out of the house on time to attend a double-top-secret-brunch-meeting-stitch-n-bitch-bee-soiree-rendezvous of the BombShells.

"I'm going bowling," Prickly Pear told her friends.

"I'm just going to go for a walk in the park," Boo Radley said.

The host, Captain Hook, told her neighbors she was hosting a bridge party.

It's hard to gather a bunch of BombShells on the sly. But that's what we did. We disguised ourselves as regular women and met to do our dirty work: to crochet and knit our bombs for our next operation.

So in between stitches and sips of mimosas and bites of delicious brunchy fare, the BombShell meeting got underway. We had a lot to cover. Here in short, are the minutes.

5. How to pull off our next three operations in secret.
6. How great the food is.
7. How to make pom poms.
8. How fast everyone works (May Hem and Pinky Shears excluded.)

We adjourned the meeting with a reminder that what happens in Vegas ....

We reminded each other that the first rule of BombShells is not to talk about BombShells.

THE BOMBSHELLS ROCK! WE ARE IN THE NEWS AND ON THE NEWS FROM BOSTON TO OAKLAND COUNTY!

The AP picked up the story as did several online forums and holy mary mother of yarn, our sexy hot bods and our brainy covert operation and our beautiful bomb babies have been parading front and center on your TV, web news and print publications.

What so proudly we hailed. Yes sirree.

And because we are clever as they come (and freakin famous now too!) we have given you a bunch of mammoth size clues about our next operation.

If you are smart enough to figure it out, keep it to yourself. Because remember, the first rule about BombShells is don't talk about BombShells. Blog and Facebook and Twitter, yes. But talk, no.

Celebrate your inner BombShell this weekend and do something fiercely independent. If you make the world prettier while you are at it, bonus points to you.

But we BombShells think you might just want to set your eyes on Channel 12 news tonight in Cincinnati, Ohio to see what a bombshell news pal of ours has to say about the DEEviant DEEliciousness we got ourselves into today.

So they are working on the plans for the next operation or the operation after next. Who knows? They copy me on the correspondence and expect me to make heads or tails of it.

Pinky Shears and Big Foot reconnoiter the sites, make maps, and then send out the assignments. So far Babzy BS has a one pole and tree 10 and FrogRoyale has trees 8 and 9 and Sushi Girl has trees 5 and 6 and J Bomb has a pole and Toots made enough for a tree or a pole or a god knows what else.

And that is only the start of it.

We get times to meet (TOO EARLY!) and secret instructions at the last minute and then more secret last-minute instructions.

Good thing I like these ladeez and good thing they are going to stitch up some stellar bombs in beauteous colors in some amazing locations because Ms. May Hem is not really the very best at the DEEtails, unless of course, it is to lay down some DEElicious prose about DEEviant BombShell stories.

Like the time when Pinky and Louie and Casper jumped the line in front of a bunch of bikers at the karaoke bar and sang "99 Luftballoons" while knitting the cutest little red balloons you have ever seen and the biker we now call "The Big One" was ready to hit Pinky upside the head until she went all 'balloon animal" with her knitting and turned her balloon into a fancy handlebar cozy for his hog ... yes ... that is the sort of DEEtail this BombShell is inclined to recall. Not to mention the tequila with "The Big One." Not to mention ... (secret secret personal stuff.)

But keep your eyes peeled, ladies and gents. Because no matter what kind of DEEtails I spill now or later, the fruits of the BombShells' labor will become evident soon. Very soon.

It's not easy being an early-morning BombShell.

Because let me tell you, darlings. It is not easy being a BombShell with a capital "B" and "S" cuz after you've been out until the wee hours doing wee hour of the night sorts of BombShell things (I recall pink cocktails, a young man with a startling tattoo, a war hero, a dance on a bar, a harrowing turn-of-the-bar-lights-for-last-call) it is not easy getting your self out of that warm bed and those warm arms and get to the Mission on time.

And these ladeez get up early, let me tell you.

Why already today we have visited (I myself was really was more of an adornment this morning than a presence as too much jiggling o-my-self would have made me weep) two of our favorite shopping establishments.

Can you guess where?

If you can find this sweet little Sushi Girl bomb, it's yours to keep. So as soon as you have some coffee and remember where you parked your car, hurry on out to a multi-dimensional retail corner where you can get some staples, your cash checked AND shop for the city's best luxury home goods. Wait, is that London calling?

Then, you can MOsey on over to a charming little OTR boutique named after an inanimate bombshell that is run by one of the city's most animated and philanthropic bombshells.

With those final clues and these few photos, this BombShell is taking herself back to bed for some beauty sleep. Besides, it isn't polite to keep a war hero waiting, is it?

May Hem here. I am the official scribe for the BombShells. We are a crew of ladeez (and a few lucky gents) who aim to readdress the nature of graffiti with a nonpermanent, nondestructive, cozy medium.

Say what?!?!

We stitch and sew and crochet a little beauty into the environment on double top secret missions around town. That's Cincinnati for now.

(We aspire for world domination but what self-respecting bombshell doesn't?)

We stitch in secret and we might even bitch a little along the way. But the end result is surprising, whimsical and temporal. Which means that it won't last forever so when you see our bombs, take note!!!

In honor of International Yarn Bomb Day (yes kiddo, there is such a thing), we executed our first rock solid mission and fancied up the statues on Piatt Park on Garfield Place. Word has it that this is one of Cincinnati's oldest parks but we are too busy stitching to research such facts so trust us, it's old.

So anyway, 11 of the crew, including Pinky Shears, Yum Yum, Boo Radley, Babsy BS, WIP, Louie, Prickly Pear and FrogRoyale, ventured out at 6 a.m. on a sunny Sunday morning to give William H. Taft a knitted BombShell banner to hold and to get William Henry Harrison's horse ready for step aerobics by adorning him with leg warmers.

(Post-blog NOTE: We have been advised by our more literate and careful readers that we gave President Garfield the banner, not William H. Taft. And while we are more often known for our beauty and our guerilla-community-beautification-efforts than our brains, we stand firm on getting the facts about our city right. So careful readers, please do make sure to let us know when we lose our way, historically, geographically or otherwise. A BombShell tis not a bombshell with out the brains, ya know.)

Then a few of us moseyed on over to the Drag Races on Jackson Street to drop a few bombs to cheer on our gal pals in drag.
